CARNEY, Sophia Gaudelius - January 2, 1930 - October 14, 2021
Sophia "Fiep" Gaudelius Carney, born January 2, 1930 in Amsterdam, Holland, passed away October 14, 2021.
In 1952, Fiep married Ben Gaudelius (1929-1989) in Amsterdam, and in 1954 they immigrated to Canada.
Fiep was an avid tennis player, skier and golfer, and enjoyed time at their vacation home in Ellicottville, New York.
In 1993, Fiep married George Carney (1927-2000) and moved to Florida.
They loved spending winters in Florida and summers in Minnesota. In 2009, Fiep moved to Foxdale Village in State College, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed many activities including choir and the recorder group.
Fiep loved playing duplicate bridge and was an active member of the University Mennonite Church in State College. She is survived by her two daughters: Yvonne Gaudelius (Nigel Higson) of State College, Pennsylvania, and Audrey Macdonald (Colin) of Mississauga, Ontario; by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Amanda Macdonald of Victoria, British Columbia, Thomas Macdonald (Samantha, daughter Emilia and son Malcolm) of Nobleton, Ontario, and Julia Higson and partner Treves Li of Seattle, Washington.
The family will be having a private celebration of life.
