Ioi ChizuruIOI, Chizuru Patricia (nee TSUBOUCHI)   -  July 28, 1919, Vancouver, BC With broken hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother who was 102 years old.

Known as Pat or Chizu to many friends and family, mom was predeceased by our brother, Gerry (1951) and dad, Toshiyuki "Toe" (1978).

She will be deeply missed by her daughters Christine Field, Susan Langdon, and Janice (Jim), and grandchildren Nicholas, Vanessa, Spencer and Cameron, and many nieces and nephews.

The eldest of six, she was the beloved sister of Kiyoshi "Tom" (predeceased), Nobu Smart, Setsuko Oda, Kenji (predeceased), and Eiji (predeceased).

To say that she lived a long life is true: her Japanese name means 1,000 cranes. Her fondest memories were about growing up in Duncan on Vancouver Island, falling in love and marrying our dad in 1941.

There were tragic stories too: the internment of Japanese-Canadians during WWII, and the devastating heartbreaks of losing her son Gerry at age 7, and the sudden death of her husband.

It is a testament to her quiet courage and resolve that despite these tragedies, mom found solace in her faith and family.

She always counted her blessings and managed to keep a positive outlook on life. She is fondly remembered for her many talents, among them: ace seamstress, avid gardener, crossword puzzle pro, amazing cook, and the world's best pie-maker.

We would like to thank all the personal support workers who cared for mom over the years, particularly Lynette Modeste- Marcano who was not only mom's caregiver for nine years but a devoted friend.

Donations in her name to the Momiji Health Care Society (momiji.on.ca) would be greatly appreciated.
