McKhool EliMCKHOOL, Eli Joseph  -  "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time" Eli died peacefully at home in Toronto with his beloved wife Roberte (Nehma), children Gregory (Annemarie), Ingrid and Christopher (Catherine), and grandchildren Sophie, Elias and River by his side.

He leaves behind sisters Norma and Raymonde and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Eli and Najeeba and siblings Rose, George, Georgette, Laura, and Raymond.

Eli's parents immigrated from Lebanon around 1900, settling in Ottawa, where they opened a convenience store and later a modest restaurant called the Laurier Tea Room.

After graduating from Carleton University, Eli joined Gowling & Henderson as Senior Patent Agent, where he established an international reputation over a 42-year career.

He was proud of his mentoring role for new patent agent trainees and his 9-year term on the board of the Patent & Trademark Institute of Canada, including as National President.

He and Roberte raised their family (and a succession of beloved dogs) in the house they lived in for 50 years until moving to Toronto in 2014.

Eli was always full of curiosity, a happy person, with a rich sense of humour. He never saw a pun he didn't like. His favourite city was Paris, where he could sit at a café to watch the world go by. In accordance with his wishes, Eli will be cremated and there will be no burial.

He has asked his family to gather at Sugar Beach, where he and Roberte spent so many pleasant afternoons, and distribute his ashes in Lake Ontario.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the amazing palliative team, especially Drs Glazier, Saltman and Hashemi, NP Leea, RN Marion, and PSW Katherine.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care are appreciated.
