WASSMANSDORF, Bart M.   -  The family of Bart Wassmansdorf is incredibly saddened to announce his passing on December 23, 2021.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean Wassmansdorf (née Midgley).

Loving father of David (Elizabeth), Steven, and Gregg (Catherine), he was also the proud and adoring grandfather of Gillian, Daniel, and Emily.

He will also be missed by his brothers, Paul of Menands, New York, and Mark (Sonya) of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania.

Bart was born on June 17, 1936, and raised in Troy, New York with humble beginnings.

After graduating from Boston College, Bart decided to serve his country by joining the U.S. Navy.

Bart met the love of his life on a beach in Barbados while his ship was there and Jean was on a holiday from Trans Canada Airlines.

It was love at first sight and they married on November 25, 1961.

Bart then earned a Master of Business Administration at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Bart and Jean later put down roots in Canada after Bart was given an opportunity to pursue a career in land development and home building, and he later became a proud Canadian.

Bart always strived to balance hard work with pleasure pursuits like travel, sailing, and golf and lived his life in a way that put "service above self".

Bart's Catholic faith was foundational in his life both at home in Mississauga and in Longboat Key, Florida, and he offered steadfast support of community and charitable activities in both communities.

He will be remembered for his legacy of true friendship, leadership, and stewardship as a naval officer, a dedicated Rotarian, and a Board member at Credit Valley Hospital ("CVH").

Fully 20 years after surviving cancer thanks to a stem cell transplant at Princess Margaret Hospital, Bart's recent illness brought him back to personally benefit from the legacy he helped create within the specialized oncology and palliative care unit at CVH.

He returned home with further palliative support shortly before his passing.

Bart and Jean recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Bart's memory will be cherished by all those who knew his loyalty, intellect, integrity, and unwavering love.

Donations in memoriam can be made to: The Compass Foodbank & Outreach Centre Mississauga; Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre; Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation; or a charity of your choice.

A Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (Mississauga) will be held at a later date.
