SAKSIDA, Maria - Passed away peacefully, on Friday, December 24, 2021, at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto, at the age of 88, with her daughter at her side.
Loving wife of the late Alojz (Tata).
Devoted mother of Susan (Iztok) and Sonja (Ethan).
Adoring grandmother of Andrew and Justin.
Maria (Mama) was born in Slovenia on February 27, 1933 and moved to Adelaide, Australia, after the War, where she met Tata and started her family.
After the family moved to Toronto, she found her forever home.
Although she continued to travel the world, her favourite place was amongst the flowers in her garden and her happiest pastime was speaking with her cherished friends, as they regaled each other with their life stories and homespun wisdom.
She loved family dinners where she would showcase her specialties of gnocchi, breaded chicken, potica and strudel, with gentle encouragement to "eat more"!
Mama's passing has left us with an empty chair at our table but our hearts remain full with memories of her.
Due to COVID restrictions, private family services will be held.
