Toner TheodoreTONER, Theodore (Ted)  -  November 14, 1940 – December 26, 2021

Retired District Chief Toronto Fire Services

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce Ted's sudden death.

Husband of the late Daira, Ted is survived by his son Rod (Liz), his much-loved granddaughters Amalia and Layla, and their mother Filomena.

Ted was a beloved brother to Denyse (Terry) and the late Diane (John).

Those close to Ted knew he was a kind soul with a contagious smile and infectious laugh.

He spent over 50 summers on Lake Bernard with his family and lifelong friends, Barbara and Gary Cook, and their daughters Audra (Derek) and Deidra (Jay).

Sadly, Gary passed away only 11 days prior to Ted, yet there is some comfort knowing that they are reunited.

'Teddy' was incredibly proud of his granddaughters, always taking a keen interest in what they learned at school while challenging their perspectives on life and encouraging them to think outside the box.

A good debate always followed these discussions.

Ted was generous with his time and was always ready to lend his 'handyman' expertise to anyone who asked him for help or guidance. He loved a 'how do we fix it?' challenge.

As a proud retired District Chief (7) with Toronto Fire Services, Ted loved telling stories from his 35-year career as a firefighter.

As such, the family would like to thank Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Paramedic Services and Toronto Police Services for their valiant efforts on Sunday, December 26th.

At Ted's request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and he will be interred during a private family farewell at the cottage on Lake Bernard.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ted's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
