FELKERS, Elvira (nee KIMERALIS)   -  January 3, 1930 - January 18, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Elvira Felkers announces her passing on January 18, 2022 at Birchmount Hospital in Scarborough in her 93rd year.

Born in Skujiene in Latvia in 1930, the oldest of 4 children, her early life was spent on the family farm until political unrest forced the family to Germany, where she spent time in a displaced persons camp.

Elvira chose to board a vessel alone to Canada where she landed in Halifax and was placed on a train to Welland, Ontario where she went to work as a domestic for a Scottish family.

After a year she returned to Toronto where she met her future husband, Karlis Felkers.

They married in 1950 and had a son, Valdis in 1956.

Elvira was a great supporter of St. John's Latvian Church and worked on many ladies' committees as well as being an active participant at Camp Saulaine where she helped run the kitchen for many, many wonderful years.

Elvira had a keen intellect and thoroughly enjoyed participating in lively discussions about politics, world events and the world of finance. Truly a renaissance woman in so many ways... we will miss her enormously.

Elvira was predeceased by her husband Karlis and her son Valdis as well as her sisters Dzidra and Velta and her brother Gunters.

She is survived by her granddaughter Laurie Waterman (Kyle), her great-grandson, Ethan Waterman, her nephew Edwards Azzara in BC, her niece Nora Decosemo in Alberta and her daughter-in-law Joanne Felkers.

A private family service will be held at York Funeral Centre on January 24th at 11:00 a.m.
