Stiglic IvanSTIGLIC, Ivan (John)   -  November 19, 1936 - March 23, 2022

It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the passing of Ivan (John) Stiglic.

Surrounded by his family at home, Ivan died on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

A kind, wise and compassionate man, Ivan is the beloved husband of Rezka (Theresa) and the much-loved brother of Anton Stiglic and Ivanka Zugelj.

He is the cherished father of Jeannie, Sylvia and Rosemary; father-in-law and mentor to Paul Bicknell and Micheal Simaan; "the best grandpa" to Charlotte, Isaac, Sienna and Millicent, and Jacob Simaan; and honourary grandfather to Sara Bergnach.

Ivan arrived in Canada in 1960 with boundless energy, hope, and goodwill.

As a trained cobbler, shoe maker and designer, he landed his first job in a shoe factory in Toronto. Later, he owned "Palace Shoes" with Rezka.

Self-taught and resourceful, he became quietly involved in other business ventures. His foresight leaves an exceptional legacy for his family. Always modest and the hardest of workers, Ivan was as comfortable behind a calculator as he was wielding tools.

He raised his daughters with gentleness and strength, encouraging them to make responsible choices while never interfering. T

hroughout his life he generously provided his time, work, and provisions to his family and friends.

He was a friend to so many who enjoyed his good-natured company, humour and sage counsel. The short, last few months of Ivan's life were fought with bravery and resolve against cancer. Ivan remained true to his nature by greeting those who cared for him with warm smiles and gratitude.

Visitation will take place Sunday, March 27th, from 2-6 p.m. at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 28th, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, 739 Browns Line in Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Always young at heart, Ivan was afflicted by Hodgkin Lymphoma which normally strikes people decades younger.

Donations may also be made in Ivan's name for the renovation of Sveti Štefan Church in Semi, Slovenia.
