IRVING, Rita (nee PACK)   -  August 28, 1924 – August 10, 2022

At peace, with her family by her side and in their prayers, Rita sailed to another port of call from St. Joseph Health Care Centre in Toronto, in her 98th year.

Born in Gunridge, Bay Bulls, Newfoundland, Rita was the first child for Herbert and Stella Pack.

She was the beloved wife of David Irving, cherished sister of Clarence (Ruth) and Selby (Alma) – all of whom predeceased her.

Rita was the adored mother of Herbert and his wife, Victoria Clare, and treasured aunt of David (deceased), Stella (Mike), Diane (Gary), Douglas (Josee), Nancy (Doug), Heather (Newton), and their families.

Rita was also a wonderful great-aunt and great-great-aunt to all our children, and their children.

Our Rita was a cousin and friend to many in Newfoundland, England, Scotland, Michigan, and a treasured part of the Mount Denis and Junction neighborhoods of Toronto.

Her hands were never at rest. Her doorway never barred.

Her table never too small to welcome another fellow traveller on the road of life. Her knitting needles produced warm socks for the homeless, as well as baby clothes and blankets – the sale of which helped fund the St. Olave parish's Hunger Patrol.

Our family's matriarch has travelled on, but she left us a wealth of wisdom, knowledge, stories and laughter. We will miss her forever, but we will carry on her legacy of care and concern for others.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Hunger Patrol (stolaves.ca/hunger-patrol).

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at St. Olaves Anglican Church (360 Windermere Ave., Toronto), on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.

"And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
– Micah 6:8

In Rita's memory, choose kindness. Always kindness.
