Young MonaYOUNG, Mona   -  It is with deep sorrow that her family announces the death of Mona Young, on October 22, 2022, at Toronto Western Hospital.

Beloved wife of Johnston (deceased); dearly loved mother of Heather and Jennifer and her husband Rod Jones; cherished grandmother of Katy and Gregory, all of Toronto.

Mona was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Dr. Samuel J. Poots (Lilian), Dr. Vaughan Poots (June) and Mrs. Vera Anderson (Jim). She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mona was educated at Methodist College, Belfast, and Queen's University, Belfast.

She and Johnston were married in 1952 at Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, Belfast, and emigrated to Canada in 1960. Mona was a born teacher. Teaching infused her approach to life.

Her teaching career included positions with Park Parade Secondary School, Belfast, East Elgin Secondary School, Aylmer, and Brant County Board of Education (multiple schools). Mona started piano studies as a child and enjoyed a lifetime of playing on her beloved Bechstein.

Her musicianship was recognized by naming her an Associate of Trinity College, London. She led weekly sing-alongs at Christie Gardens until the week before her death.

At Mona's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A tea will be held in Christie Gardens for her neighbours and friends.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Christie Gardens Foundation, the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Charity of Your Choice, are greatly appreciated.
