BIRT, Anne  -   April 3, 1933 - October 27, 2022

On October 27, 2022, Anne Weymouth Birt passed away at home, from complications of recurrent breast cancer at the age of 89.

Anne was, in turn, a daughter, sister, student, friend, doctor, wife, aunt, mother, and grandmother.

She loved her family, her job, her cats, books, opera, and chocolate.

She had a long and happy life, and was full of love for her family and of kindness to everyone.

During WWII, she lived in Barbados with her mother and her two sisters.

After the war ended, they moved to Iraq to reunite with her father. She trained as a doctor in London, England, and met her husband when they were both doing the same house job.

They married in 1960. After the family moved to Canada in 1970, she joined the staff at Baycrest Hospital, a hospital and care home for aged persons of the Jewish faith; some of her patients were Holocaust survivors.

On her retirement, she was named a "Treasure of Baycrest."

She was the oldest of three sisters, and was predeceased by both. Her youngest sister, Carolyn, died in 2010 on the same date as Anne; and her middle sister, Jenny, died this past July.

She leaves her husband of 62 years, Derek Birt; her two children, Catherine and Peter; as well as her dearly loved granddaughter, Emily. She will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends.

The cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Canadian Opera Company or the Alzheimer Foundation would be appreciated.
