Hayes MaryHAYES, Mary Elen (nee HOGAN)   -  April 17, 1926 - November 5, 2022

Passed away peacefully after a short stay at Sunnybrook Hospital.

Born in Toronto to Patrick and Bernadette Hogan, she was the eldest and loving sister to the late Anne O'Brien (the late Ted), the late Frank (Marie) and is survived by her brother Bob and her sister-in-law Shannon who have fond memories of her and will miss her.

Wonderful and loving mother to her four children, Bill (Margaret), Anne Marie (Al), Eileen (Tim) and John (Charlene).

She will be greatly missed by her ten grandchildren and seven (soon to be eight) great-grandchildren who adored her.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a great support in helping to raise her grandchildren. She had many opportunities to travel throughout Canada, the US and Europe with her children, grandchildren and friends.

She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Canada and the U.S.A.

Upon retirement, she volunteered at Sunnybrook Hospital for 30 years. Mary Ellen was nominated by Sunnybrook to be recognized for her outstanding work, subsequently being awarded the impressive Ontario Volunteer Award in 2020.

Her family would like to thank Sunnybrook for making her feel so valued as a volunteer and then treating her with care and compassion during the last week of her life.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 24 Cheritan Ave., Toronto on Friday December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. with a reception in the Church Hall following the Mass.

For those wanting to honour Mary Ellen, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Friends and family can make their donation via Sunnybrook Foundation by phone: (416-480-4483), web: (https://donate.sunnybrook.ca/tribute) or mail (c/o Sunnybrook Foundation 2075 Bayview Avenue, KGW-01 Toronto, ON M4N 3M5).
