Penwill LornaPENWILL, Lorna  -  It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lorna Penwill, at age 91 on November 18, 2022, at Michael Garron Hospital.

Beloved mother of Diane and Kathy (Richard); loving wife of the late Wallace Penwill.

Lorna will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Mom was a Montrealer at heart. Born in the Town of Mount Royal, she graduated from the Mother House, a business college for women in a historic building at the corner of de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Sherbrooke Street. After graduation, she met Dad on the Laurentian Ski Train, which carried skiers from Montreal to the Laurentians.

She fell in love with the handsome, athletic Wallace (Wally/Buck) who hailed from the Eastern Townships, where he was working on a degree at Bishop's University.

They married after he moved to Montreal.

An only child, Mom cherished her family and friends. She could talk to anyone and found a community of like-minded people wherever she went. Mom kept in touch with old friends from the Town of Mount Royal and the Mother House, the gang who would get together in North Hatley, those from the West Island community of Dorval where she and Dad raised the family, and her new friends in Don Mills, Toronto, where they built a life after Montreal.

After the move to Toronto, they joined the Donway Covenant Church, where they made many new and lasting friends.

Mom was passionate about music, played piano and sang in the church choir, as well as the Serenata Singers. She volunteered on many church committees.

She was a wonderful homemaker, and a caring, engaging mother and good friend. Also down to earth, she was known for her kindness, sense of humour, strong spirit and beautiful smile.

Amemorial will be held in the Spring of 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society at: www.alzheimers.ca.
