FLYNN, Sos, Sister Patricia    -  March 5, 1942 - January 27, 2023

Sister Patricia Flynn, SOS, died at the Houses of Providence, Toronto, on January 27, 2023, in her 56th year of religious life with the Sisters of Service.

Born in Hamilton, Scotland, she was the second of the fourteen children of Paul John Flynn and Eileen McCabe.

She was predeceased by her parents; and by her siblings, Anne and Charles. She is survived by Paul, Therese, James, Tom, Martin, Helen, Frank, John, Brendan, Stephen and Barbara.

A teacher who emigrated from Scotland in July 1965, Sister Patsy brought energy, creativity, kindness, joy and adaptability upon entering the Sisters of Service on September 8, 1967, and professing final vows on August 15, 1974.

Over two decades, she taught in elementary schools in Rycroft, AB, Churchill, MB, St. Julien's, NL, Fort McMurray, AB, High Level, AB, Wyoming, ON, and Moosonee, ON.

An artist and musician, she encouraged her students in many forms of art, including snow sculptures, and in learning to play the guitar and to dance Scottish flings.

While earning a Bachelor of Education degree in Regina, she illustrated new catechetical lessons for the Home Program. During summer holidays, she assisted Anita Hartman, SOS, in her Guitar Camps' Ministry.

After retirement from teaching, Sister Patsy completed a graduate degree in art therapy in 2005, practicing art therapy in Beaverton, ON, during retreats in rural parishes, and facilitated a spirituality group in her residence until retirement at LaSalle Manor and the Houses of Providence.

The Sisters of Service extend their sympathy to Sister Pasty's family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Presentation Manor, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Toronto, Ontario, M1L 1Z7 (corner of Warden Ave).
