SHIRTLIFF, Ronald Frederick   - Ron Shirtliff was born on a farm close to Starbuck, Manitoba, on August 8, 1933, and died at his home in Toronto, surrounded by his partner and his children on April 17, 2023.

He was the cherished partner of Janet Inksetter; and beloved father to Yvette (Stuart), Geoffrey (Carol) and Nicholas (Josslyn); and grandfather to Maya, Trevor, Rhys, Taylor, Damian, Thea, and Delphine.

Predeceased by his parents, Stella (McDonnell) and Lewis; siblings, Harold (Maisie), Rowena Lundman (Ed), Wilbur, Alvin (Pauline), Angela Murphy, and Lucille Muldoon (Frank). Survived by sister, Estelle Sinclair (late Don); brother-in-law, George Murphy; and sister-in-law, Florence.

Raised primarily by his Aunt Elizabeth after his mother's death, Ron dealt with the health challenges of undiagnosed Celiac Disease until his early 30s.

After many years teaching at Ryerson Polytechnic, he also enjoyed a long retirement where he had time to tend to his indoor and outdoor gardens, as well as reforesting his remaining land in Glen Roy, Ontario.

Friends and family will miss his quiet humour, his curiosity, his activism, his often unexpected political insights, and his love of nature, the outdoors and everything mechanical.

There will be a memorial gathering June 7th at 3 p.m. at Christie Gardens, Toronto.

If you wish to remember Ron with a donation, please make it to a Charity of Your Choice.
