Kalant LevonahKALANT, Levonah (nee COHEN)  -  Levonah Kalant passed away peacefully, on May 5, 2023, in her 100th year, surrounded by loved ones.

Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Norman Kalant, Lee is survived by her children, David (Karen), Jennifer (Roger) and Amelia (Dana); her beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Keira), Rebecca (Adam) and Isaac; "baby" sister, Zelda; and generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lee received a degree in psychology from the University of Toronto and many children were the beneficiaries of her practice, both in Toronto and Montreal.

While not the life of the party, she was so often the quiet centre of it.

People gravitated to her due to her endless compassion, attentiveness, humour and intellect. She was a voracious reader, a CBC addict, a Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell fan, well ahead of her time on social issues, and a strong advocate for many human rights causes. While her memory faded in her later years, family photos and stories were always a source of joy.

The stories she told of her large and loving extended family may not have been entirely accurate, but conveyed the honest and deep affection she had for all.

Throughout her life, she never complained and frequently exclaimed, "I'm so lucky!" Except that one time, when David was six and locked her in his room. Her caregivers, Cecelia, Tina, Kim, Brenda, Fely and Jela were like family, and we cannot thank them enough for their kind and gentle care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, or to any Charity of Your Choice would be greatly appreciated but not expected.

A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
