CHIRINIAN, Vergine - Vergine Chirinian passed away on May 11, 2023, in Toronto, just shy of her 104th birthday, surrounded by her immediate family.
Vergine was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey.
She was one of a handful of females to become a physician in Turkey.
After her marriage to Hagop Shirinian, she went on to live, practice medicine and raise a family in Beirut, Lebanon.
Following the civil war in Lebanon, she and her husband moved to Montreal, and then to Toronto to be with her daughter, Nevart Chirinian.
She was predeceased by her son, Bebo (1973); husband, Hagop (1998); and sister, Lalezar.
She is survived by her daughter, Nevart; and son-in-law, Lutfi; granddaughter, Anoushka; grandson, Sami and his wife, Rawan; and her niece, Ayla. Vergine was competitive, a fighter and a disciplinarian.
She was an avid reader, always eager for adventure, spoke five languages and was a MacGyver; there was nothing that could not be fixed with a bit of string or a few rubber bands.
Vergine fought fiercely the ravages of dementia, but ultimately, lost the battle.
In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Alzheimer Society and to the Sunnybrook Hospital's Memory Clinic.
