Shubert HohannaSCHUBERT, Johanna   -  It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Johanna Schubert (née Sztrajt), at 103 years of age.

Born in Dubno, Eastern Poland (now Ukraine), in 1920, she met and worked alongside her husband, Dr. Josef Schubert, a field surgeon, during World War II.

In the early 1950s, with two young daughters, they came to Canada as part of the Great Post-War Migration. Her multiple languages enabled our grandfather to have a thriving medical practice at High Park and Bloor Street.

Between trips around the world, she spent many summers at the family cottage in Haliburton. She leaves behind a large extended family and many friends.

Johanna is resting at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W.  Visitation will be Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Guests are welcome to wear green, purple or floral in keeping with Oma's favourite colours and love of flowers.

If any former patients of Dr. Josef and Johanna Schubert have a story they wish to share, please bring them with you to the visitation or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
