Sholdoff Dr ThomasSHOLDOFF, Dr. Thomas (Tom) Stavro  - September 9, 1951 – October 19, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Thomas Stavro Sholdoff.

After a courageous 10-year battle with cancer, Tom passed away peacefully at home with his three sons by his side.

He now rests in peace and is again with his beloved wife of 27 years, Janie (nee Newell) (predeceased).

Cherished son of Chris (predeceased) and Pauline.

Lovingly remembered by siblings Valerie and Elizabeth, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, in addition to Tom's many nieces, nephews, friends and large network of colleagues in the medical community.

As a longtime resident of West Rouge, Dr. Stavro practiced medicine in the Scarborough and Durham communities for the past 30 years.

Caring for his patients and working within a team of high-performing medical professionals in the Emergency department is what Tom loved to do. Compassion, respect, dedication and professionalism ultimately led Dr. Stavro to the position of Chief of Emergency for the Rouge Valley Health System. A position he held for 10 years.

Tom was known and respected for his fierce dedication to his family, especially Janie and "The Boys". A love of sport, fitness, good food and quiet moments were defining attributes. Whether at home, or at the cottage, an idle state was rare: Tom was always up to something, puttering, planning, collecting or directing activities of daily life. To friends and family alike, Tom's calm counsel was highly valued and often sought after.

Mentoring others or being a good role model was just who he was. A special 'thank you' goes out to Tom's nurses "Tom's Team", that volunteered in his time of need and the supportive staff at Centenary, Sunnybrook and Princess Margaret Hospitals.

Visitations will take place at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Road, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on both Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th. The family also invites friends to attend a service in celebration of Tom's life on Monday, October 30th, 11 a.m. at The Guild Inn, 201 Guildwood Parkway.

For those that want to make a donation in Tom's memory, the family asks that donations be made in Tom's memory in support of the Rouge Valley Health Foundation. Although Tom will be missed terribly, his values and influence live on in everyone who knew him.
