BAILEY, Joyce   - 1935 - 2017  Joyce Bailey passed away at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on November 23, 2017.

Joyce was the daughter of Gladys Bailey and former Toronto Maple Leaf star Irvin (Ace) Bailey.

She was a distinguished health care leader and volunteer and friend, mentor and role model to countless people in the hospital and health care field. Joyce graduated as a nurse from The Wellesley School of Nursing in 1956.

She received her B.Sc.N. from the University of Toronto in 1964 and M.Sc.N. from Case Western Reserve University in 1968. In 1987 she was awarded a Fellowship of the Canadian College of Health Care Leaders.

Joyce served The Wellesley Hospital from 1956 to 1989 rising through a variety of nursing and management positions before serving as President and CEO from 1982 to 1989 - one of the first women to lead a teaching hospital in Ontario.

Following her career at the Wellesley, Joyce served in leadership roles at the Ontario Hospital Association from 1990 to 1996 and as President of the Canadian Healthcare Association from 1997 to 1998

She was beloved "Aunty Joyce" to Tawni and beloved godmother of Isabella and Sophie. She was a special friend and giver of treats to Gus - the cockapoo. Joyce will be sadly missed by her many friends who loved her for her fearless spirit, her courage, her keen intellect, her fierce independence, her sense of humour and love of life (and of a glass of good red wine). Many thanks to Dr. Bennett and the entire palliative care team at Sunnybrook for their goodness and loving kindness to Joyce in her final weeks.

A gathering to celebrate Joyce's life and career will be held on Saturday, December 16th between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, at 159 Eglinton Avenue West in Toronto.

Donations in Joyce's memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook.
