SCANLON, Dorothy  - January 21, 1923 - November 24, 2017

Loving mother to Kevin (Trish), Paul (Sue), Barry (Sylvia) and Patrick (Tania).

Loving grandmother to Kevin Jr., Matthew, Damien, Liam, Fiona, Kara, Jessica, Devlin, Michael and Meaghan.

Loving great-grandmother to Kieran, Lucas, Colin and Alex.

Dorothy was born in England and spent most of her childhood growing up in the beautiful, tiny village of Ditchling in Sussex County.

She later served in the Second World War as a member of the Women's Royal Naval Service (Wrens) from 1944 to 1945.

Her service in the British Royal Navy included an overseas posting in Ceylon (now called Sri Lanka).

After the war ended Dorothy married and in 1953 with her husband, Michael, and two sons immigrated to Canada eventually landing in Toronto. Two more sons were added to the family before the 1950s came to an end.

When the children were a bit older and Dorothy was well in to her 40s she made a decision to return to school, something that was unusual for someone of that age at the time. Two years later, she successfully graduated and received her diploma from Ryerson. Dorothy subsequently obtained a position at the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services where she worked until her retirement. For the next 35 years of her retirement Dorothy remained very active. She continued to travel and visit friends and family across Canada and overseas until she was well in to her 80s.

Dorothy remained very active in church parish activities over her life including volunteer activities.

Visitation to be held at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. West, on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Church (480 Rathburn Rd.). Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
