MACKENZIE, Betty Mary  - It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Mary Mackenzie (née Thompson) announces her passing on November 25, 2017, at the age of 90, in Scarborough, Ontario after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease.

Betty was born March 8, 1927 in Toronto. She graduated from Jarvis Collegiate Institute in 1945.

Soon afterwards she joined Bell Canada where she had a very successful career holding various management roles. Betty married the late Raymond Arthur Mackenzie in 1969 and they shared a passion for boating, travelling, cooking and entertaining. Betty volunteered with Junior Achievement and ran the Kiwanis Toys for Tots program for many years.

She retired in 1987 and moved to Meaford, Ontario where she enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlepoint, making the world's best lasagna and escaping the cold by wintering in Panama City Beach, Florida.

"Sweet Mama Betty" is survived by daughter Suzanne Zakis and son-in-law Auseklis of Claremont, Ontario; son David Mackenzie and daughter-in-law Christianna of Annapolis, Maryland; step- daughter Janet Mackenzie of Toronto; grandsons Kriss and Karlis; and great-grandchildren Krišjnis and Emma.

The family will be holding a private service at a later date after which Betty will be interred with her beloved Raymond at York Cemetery in North York, Ontario.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
