Caruana SamCARUANA, Sam  - Sam Caruana was born June 25, 1924 in Hamrun, Malta, and passed away December 16, 2017 at Scarborough Centenary Hospital, following a brief illness, with his sons at his side.

Sam served in the King's Own Royal Malta Regiment during WWII, then moved to England after the war for a job in music. While touring with the Benny Daniels Dance Band in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Sam met Kay.

They married in 1952. After a musical career in Britain, Sam moved to Toronto in 1974, staying with his sister Sarah Tanti and family in the Junction (Little Malta).

He was joined by Kay and son Paul shortly thereafter.

Sam is survived by wife Kay (Blair), sons Benny (Joanna) and Paul (Sandra) and their daughters Erin, Emily and Morgan.

Sam is also missed by sister Maria Dunn and brother-in-law Eddie in England and sister Sarah Tanti in Malta and many nieces and nephews in Toronto, England, Northern Ireland and Malta. Sam was predeceased by sister Anna Caruana in Malta.

Sam will also be missed by his many musical friends, including the Metropolitan Silver Band, The Encore Band and the Malta Club Band, all of whom he played with until very recently.

Visitation Friday, December 22nd, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Lynett Funeral Home, 3299 Dundas St. W.  Funeral Mass Saturday, December 23rd at 9:15 a.m., St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 3224 Dundas St. W., Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or musicounts.ca (supporting music programs in schools).
