ARMSTRONG, Joe C.W.  - January 30, 1934 – December 20, 2017

Joseph Charles Woodland Armstrong of Toronto passed away peacefully at Cummer Lodge in North York, ON, in his 84th year.

Joe will be remembered for his passions for Canadian constitutional and heritage issues, world travel, amateur photography and flying.

He made notable contributions to the historical record of Canada through books, multimedia and public service engagements. He was also an expert on early Canadian exploration and a passionate advocate of national economic development and conservative politics.

Beloved and survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Richards); his children Geoffrey (Elynda), Katherine (Bill McLeod), Jill (Mark Kinney) and Jamie (Jennifer); his grandchildren Heather and Hilary Armstrong; Trevor, Emily and Hannah Kinney; Peter and Alexander McLeod; and Nathaniel and Lucas Armstrong.

Former husband to Naomi (nee Carter) and to Barbara (nee Johnson). Son of James Shelley Phipps Armstrong (deceased) and Helen Strawn (nee Woodland) (deceased). Brother to Mollie Patterson, of Toronto; Lady Sarah Bagge, Clive Carr and Richard Carr of England; and Carol Gault (deceased) of Montreal and Calgary. Joe was born and raised in Toronto and educated at Upper Canada College, Trinity College School and Bishop's University (1958).

An active member of many notable cultural and history, associations. Creator and owner of the Joe C.W. Armstrong Canadiana Collection of early maps of Canada. Author of From Sea Unto Sea, Champlain and Farewell the Peaceful Kingdom. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to The Alzheimer Society or Diabetes Canada.
