Senior WilfredSENIOR, Wilfred Leslie "Les"  - Peacefully passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018, with his family by his side.

Les is survived by Shirley, his wife of 61 years and their children Gene and Jay, Jay's wife Summer and Gene's wife Carrie and their children Edward and Julie.

Born in England in 1935, Les grew up in Upton and married Shirley Wood on December 26, 1956.

The two dreamed of a future abroad, but life soon took over and Les found himself working down the coal mine.

One day, while working in the mine, a mate discussed his plans to move to the warmer climes of Australia.

Inspired, Les hatched a plan to move away and within a week he was on a plane to Canada.

After a few months working odd jobs and getting to know the Toronto area, Les spent the equivalent of one month's wages on a phone call to convince Shirley that moving to Canada was a great idea.

After immigrating and spending a few years in a Toronto apartment, Les and Shirley purchased 10 acres of pastureland in the rolling hills of Caledon, where he built their home by hand.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Glen Eagle Golf Club.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada (http://www.heartandstroke.ca) or another charity of your choice.
