HAMMOND, Irene Joan  - Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, at the age of 88.

Beloved wife of the late Jack Hammond, mother of Karen (Claude Durocher, deceased), Deborah (John Giancola) and Tom (Marie-Therese Maurice), grandmother to Curtis (Kelly), Jennifer, Isabelle, Alex, and Elena (Robert), great-grandmother to Owen, Emma-Jean, Ian and Owen and member of a very large and loving family of Brownings and Hammonds.

Irene was adventurous and courageous.

She had a sharp eye (and tongue!) for injustice and was a fierce defender of those who could least defend themselves.

An ardent feminist, she raised her three children to be feminists in turn.

She will always be remembered by her family and like Jack before her, will be deeply missed.

A family gathering to honour Irene's life will be held this summer.

If desired, remembrances may be made to the Ontario New Democratic Party.
