Bland TomBLAND, Thomas - (1922 - 2018) - It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the family of Thomas Bland announces his passing on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the age of 96 years.

After a long and full life, Tom died peacefully in his sleep at home with his devoted wife Rita and daughter, Lorraine by his side.

Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Rita (Dove) and his children, Christopher (Linda), Stephen and Lorraine.

He adored his grandchildren Lisa (Daren) and Andrew and his great grandson, Leroy.

Tom was the tenth child to John and Bella Bland from Bradford, Yorkshire, England. He is predeceased by siblings Annie (Terence), Margaret, Bella, Mary, Hannah (Percy), Alice (Joseph), John (Wilhelmina), Frank (Bessie), and Edith (Joseph).

Tom is survived by sister-in-laws Doreen Bailey and in England, Catharine Dove.

He is predeceased by sister-in-law Irene (Bill), brother-in-laws Harold Dove, Russ Bailey, Eddie Dove (Lucy).

Tom will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends both in England and Canada.

Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, Tom served in the Royal Navy during WWII before marrying his wife Rita, in 1949. They moved to Canada in 1964 with their young family where they purchased a home in Oakville, Ontario. Tom began working in Canada at several temporary jobs until gaining permanent employment as a book binder at Canada Law Book.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Siobhan Bell, Director of Wellness at Amica Retirement Residence in Newmarket and her assisted living staff. Also, the caring palliative visiting nurses from Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Tom’s life on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Taylor Funeral Home, Newmarket, Ontario. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. followed by a service at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sick Kids Foundation.
