NICHOLS, Warren James (Jim) - 1918 - 2018 Warren James (Jim) Nichols passed away peacefully on June 19, 2018 in the 100th year of his wonderful life.
Born in November 1918 on a farm on the shores of Chemong Lake north of Peterborough, Ontario, he went on to earn an honours degree from the University of Toronto with a BASc in Mining Engineering.
He served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Engineers during WWII with his major activity as a bomb disposal officer.
He also taught mining engineering at the University of Toronto after the war.
His various jobs after the war in both consulting and engineering took him to exciting opportunities in both London, England and the various gold mines in and around Johannesburg, South Africa. He joined Cyanamid in 1957 where he remained until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Engineers Clubs in Niagara Falls and Montreal.
Jim was an avid golfer and played as often as possible and did not slow down in the winter either. He also loved curling and enjoyed both sports as a member of Scarboro Golf and Country Club. When not at the club he was doing his workout in the gym and always started each day with an early morning walk – rain or shine!
He also enjoyed travelling which took him to England, the Caribbean, Southern USA, Hawaii, Mexico and also across Canada. Jim loved life and was a very generous and loving person and thoroughly enjoyed each and every day. He was one of 9 children of Warren Vincent Sethright Nichols and Florence May Simpson.
He is survived by his sister Florence Madeline Isobel Stewart (Peggy) and his brother William Alfred Nichols (Bill). He was predeceased by his brothers Robert Aaron (Bob), Harry Simpson, Thomas Roger (Rod), John Douglas (Doug) and Donald Alexander (Don), as well as his sister Catherine Clemina Elizabeth (Betty). Also predeceasing Jim was his first wife Eunice Louise Cullen in 1983 and his only child Bonita Louise Nichols in 1970.His second wife Edna (nee King) (previously known as Hunt, Stacey, Martin) passed away in 2011.
We wish to thank the wonderful staff at Taunton Mills Long Term Care for their great kindness and care. Jim will be greatly missed by all who had the great pleasure of being part of his life.
Jim's wishes were for a private cremation and interment in Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal.
