McCORMACK, Father William, CSSp,  - 1923 - 2018  Fr. William McCormack (Bill) of the Spiritan Province of TransCanada died peacefully in the early hours of July 2, 2018.

He had recently gone to hospital with pneumonia but was alert until the end.

At the time Fr. Bill was a resident of Nazareth House, Bonnyrigg, Scotland where he had resided since August of 2007.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Father Bill is survived by two nieces and one nephew, all of Scotland. Fr. Bill was born February 3, 1923 in Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland.

He made his first profession as a Spiritan on September 8, 1951 and was ordained to the priesthood on July 8, 1956.

During his 62 years as a priest he served in a variety of pastoral works and Spiritan ministries in Nigeria, Scotland and Canada. First assigned to Nigeria, Fr. Bill served in various missionary ministries.

In 1971 Fr. Bill returned to Scotland to serve as Superior of the major Spiritan residence in Scotland. Finishing this work in 1977, Fr. Bill came to the Spiritan Province of TransCanada and worked in parish ministry in Edmonton and Stettler, Alberta and in Guelph, Ontario.

Fr. Bill also served as the Spiritan regional Superior for Western Canada and served on the Provincial Council of the Province. Fr. Bill was known for his sense of humor, his love of music, his faithful prayer life and his devotion to the missions both financially and as regards vocations. Fr. Bill will be missed by his Spiritan confreres, family and friends.

At his personal request, Fr. McCormack's funeral Mass will take place in the parish church of St. Francis Xavier, Carfin, Scotland on Tuesday, July 10th at 11:30 a.m.  Fr. Francis Folleh, CSSp, the Provincial Superior of the Spiritans of the TransCanada Province will preside at the Mass of the Resurrection.

Following the Mass, Fr. Bill will be laid to rest in the Spiritan plot at St. Patrick's cemetery, New Stevenson, Scotland.
