GODAWA, Helen Mae (née Rowe) Godawa  -  Passed away peacefully on Thursday August 31, 2023 surrounded by family.

She is survived by Joe, her beloved husband of 64 years, her children Sharon, Mike (Jean) and Joanne and by her cherished grandchildren Leah and Tyler Slute and Lily Godawa.

She is also survived by her twin sister Elinor (Bill), younger sister Thelma (Len) and older brother Mel. Her younger brother Shelley predeceased her.

Helen was born on February 7, 1932 to Carman and Freda Rowe in Maxville, Ontario. She left the family farm to come to the big city (Toronto) in her mid-twenties and met the love of her life, Joe, at Ontario Hydro after a blind date. They were married April 18, 1959 and settled in Don Mills, then later moved to Whitby, Ontario.

Mom loved being involved with her kids and grandkids. She cheered for them at every sports game or life event. She volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society and North York General Hospital.

Mom was recognized as a medical hero for working with the Toronto Memory Clinic to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s.

A private memorial will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would very much appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto.
