DESSAILLY, Engelbert Joseph Dessailly  -  Affectionately known as Bert, peacefully departed from this life on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, leaving behind a lasting impression on all those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

Bert's journey began in Dupuy, Québec, in 1934, where he was born to Josephine and Leon Dessailly.

Alongside his siblings Maurice and Cecile, Bert learned the values of hard work, compassion, and family bonds, shaping him into the remarkable man he became.

In 1957, Bert embarked on a journey of love and partnership when he married the love of his life, Arlene. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.

As a father, Bert's love knew no bounds. He poured his heart and soul into nurturing and guiding his children, Linda, Larry (Cathy), Jim (Teresa), and Lianne (Dan).

Bert was always there, a steady presence in their lives. Bert's passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. He found solace in the tranquility of nature, often spending time fishing or simply enjoying the outdoors.

But above all else, Bert cherished time spent with his family. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Tom, Kate (Dave), Meaghan (Shane), Joe, Mike (Sarah), Jacqueline, Emma, Jessica (Michael), Emily, Matthew and Samantha and a great-grandfather to Jacob and Kaiden.

A visitation to celebrate Bert's life will be held on April 8th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Mount Lawn Funeral Home ( Whitby). Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 10:30 am (1100 Mary St. N, Oshawa).

A Graveside service will follow the Funeral Mass at  MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY  (21 Garrard Street, Whitby).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bert's honor to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.
