OVENDEN, John 'Jack' Christie - (May 12, 1922 – November 4, 2018) - Passed away at Providence House in Scarborough at the age of 96.
Predeceased by wife Shirley (Bettridge), parents Percy and Ellen, and siblings Norm and Grace (Staughton).
Survived by sister Ruth (Wishart) and 14 nieces and nephews.
Our Uncle Jack had great vitality and resilience. He was a lifelong resident of East York in Toronto and St. Saviour’s parish church. He worked in construction and carpentry. He enjoyed square-dancing, handicrafts, and fundraising for hip&knee surgery at East York General Hospital.
Despite illiteracy, he managed his home and affairs with help from his brother and nephew. Blessed by an extraordinary memory, he generously recalled the timeline and stories of the extended family when we gathered.
Visitation at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Ave., Toronto on Wednesday November 7 from 5 - 9pm.
Funeral service on Thursday November 8th at 11am, at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, 43 Kimberley Ave., followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 2700 Kingston Rd.
