FERNANDO, Dr. Neil Fernando - It is with profound grief that we inform you the sudden demise of Dr Neil Fernando on Monday, May 20, 2019.
He lived at 30 Gunton Drive, Etobicoke and is survived by his wife Sweeni and four sons Niral, Keith, Nishith and Krishale.
Hails from Wennappuwa, Neil completed school education at Joseph Vas College, Wennappuwa and graduated from the University of Peradeniya with an Agriculture Science Degree as a member of 82/83' batch. Later he earned a PhD degree in Agriculture Economics from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Neil has several research publications to his credit. His career commenced at Coconut Research Institute (CRI), Lunuwila as Agricultural Economist in 1989 and later he served as Economist at United Nations Development Program
(UNDP) at the Regional Centre, Colombo from 2005 - 2009.
Following his migration to Canada, he was employed as Research Analyst at St Michael's Hospital, University of Toronto, Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Commerce and finally as Senior Credit Risk Analyst at CIBC Bank.
Neil was a regular participant at many social events and always a great contributor of worthy causes. The Sri Lankan society will miss him very much.

Visitation will be held at Newediuk Funeral Home, Kipling Chapel, Toronto on Friday, May 31st, 2019 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 9:00pm. The service will take place at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 100 Bainbridge Avenue, Vaughan on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at 11:00am.
