Khera MadhuKHERA, Madhu Bala - April 11, 1948 - January 21, 2021 - Madhu passed peacefully in the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at Toronto General Hospital, in the arms of her three children on January 21, 2021 at 10:35 pm, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 72.

Madhu is survived by her daughters, Sangeeta & Sonia, her son Amit, daughter-in-law Sunita as well as her grandchildren Saroja & Savit.

Madhu will be remembered as Didi to Anil Sachdeva, Indu Sindhu & Sudha Sachdeva; Bhua to Ashuma & Mohit Verma, Saguna & Samar Sodhi, Ashish Sachdeva, Neha & Shavin Patel and Nidhi Sachdeva; Massi to Simran Sindhu; Mom to Sonia, Sangeeta, Amit & Sunita Khera. Madhu’s most coveted title by far and unapologetically being Dadi Jaan to Saroja & Savit.

Madhu was born on April 11, 1948 in Agra, India. She grew up in an Independent, partitioned India, one of Midnight’s Children. She grew up with Harish, Anil & Indu and in an extended family.

Madhu moved from Agra to the severe, cold Canada, in November 1968. The story goes that she arrived wearing a beautiful silk saree, a thin cotton coat and silk nagra jutti (shoes) in a very snowy & chilly Winnipeg. Madhu made a home in St. Catharines where she lived for over 20 years.

She and the family moved to Scarborough in 1993 and Markham in 2004 where she worked as an office manager in a dental office. Madhu recently retired due to the Pandemic.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. E.S.T. on Saturday January 30, 2021. The link to this event will be shared with family and friends in the next couple of days. Family and close friends will be invited to attend via Zoom.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either: The Heart and Stroke Foundation at https://www.heartandstroke.ca/women, as Women’s Heart Health is under-diagnosed and under-treated.  Food Banks of Canada at https://www.foodbankscanada.ca/ to support families.  Haven on the Queensway at https://www.havenontheq.com/ to support vulnerable people in need.

The family would like to thank all the medical practitioners, nurses and staff, at both the Toronto General Hospital and Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, over the last two weeks for their exceptional care and dedication.
