Sayce Nicholas NickSAYCE, Simon Nicholas Ben 'Nick' - (1942 - 2021) - Nicholas Sayce, known to his friends as Nick, died on April 19, 2021 after a short illness.

Nick was born in Cheshire in England, the son of Barbara Burrows and Peter Sayce. He went to Shrewsbury, a public school, then studied French literature in Lausanne, though he admitted he spent more time skiing than studying.

On his return to England he worked briefly at Fortnum and Mason then joined the Army for four years. Nick was an officer in the Welsh Guards and served with the British forces in Germany. He maintained a military neatness all his life.

Nick came to Montreal for a temporary job but fell in love with the city and Canada and took his first job in the Investment business with Montreal Trust. Over a 25-year career he worked for several firms, including Nesbitt Thomson and Walywyn. Nick went out on his own and worked in investor relations, with a special interest in Canada’s growing diamond industry.

While in Montreal Nick trained on the Canadian bobsled team and he was an outstanding athlete all his life, keeping fit, skiing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and golfing. In particular he loved sailing and boating and spent many summers in a berth at Ontario Place.

Nick has a love of Bermuda, where he had many friends, and the Bahamas. Nick was an outgoing man, fond of practical jokes and was a story teller with a vast collection of one-liners, limericks and jokes. As his mother once said of him: “Once met, never forgotten.” He was an animal lover and always kept one or two whippets.

Nick married relatively late in life and was devoted to his dear wife Catherine, who survives him, along with a niece, Emily Morgan in England. His dear brother, Jeremy, died in 1980, and Nick asked that his ashes be spread near Jeremy’s grave in Norfolk.

There will be a memorial service once the COVID cloud lifts. Arrangements entrusted with Kane-Jerrett funeral home, Thornhill.

Nick and Catherine wanted to say a special thanks to the ALS clinic at Sunnybrook, the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Dr. Stephen Lewis, Dr. Agassandro Abrahao, Dr. Susan Coish, and Dr. Elizabeth Amos.
