PLANTE, Michel E.  -  Michel E. Plante, 74, of Toronto, Canada and formerly of Sanford, Maine, passed away on March 14, 2021, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He was born in Sanford, Maine, on January 7, 1947 a son of the late Ovila and Corinne (Lehouillier) Plante.

He attended St. Ignatius School in Sanford and at the age of 13 pursued studies at St. Charles Borromee Seminary in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

He studied all basic subjects, including Latin and Greek.

He earned his Bachelor's degree in French studies from the University of Sherbrooke.

Following his studies in Canada he attended the University of Maine, Orono, where he obtained his Master's Degree.

He then enlisted in the US Army where he served as a legal clerk in Texas.

In the seventies he settled and made his home in Canada where he taught both languages of English and French, at Sept-Iles (Quebec), Winnipeg (Manitoba), Kirkland Lake (Northern Ontario) and finally for many years in Toronto, teaching Core French.

During his years in Toronto, Michel was very involved in community activities for senior citizens. Michel was predeceased by his parents, as well as a sister, Jacqueline Ingvalson, and a brother, Fr. Paul Plante.

He is survived by his sisters, Beatrice Legere and her husband, Bob, and Irene Roberge, as well as 9 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 12th at 10 a.m., at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford, Maine. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
