Mavroidis VoulaMAVROIDIS, Stavroula (Voula) - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce that our dear mother Voula Mavroidis passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.

She is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband George after a courageous battle with recent health issues.

Voula was a loving mother to her daughter Carol and husband Nick and son Nick.

She was also a loving and devoted grandmother to Carol’s daughter Sarah.

Voula was born on March 17, 1939 in the beautiful Greek village of Potamia, Sparta, Greece to late parents Panagiotis and Anastasia Asfis.

Survived by loving siblings, brother John Asfis (late Dina), sister Maria Diamandakos (Louis), and sister Sophia Stanisis (Paul).

In pursuit of a better life in 1957 she boarded a boat destined for Canada. When she arrived in Toronto she initially worked as a housemaid for a nice family until her loving first cousin, the late John Sahlas, reunited her with first cousins Maria Pavlakos and Vasillios Sahlas. Voula would often share these fond memories with her daughter Carol.

Shortly after her arrival in Canada she met the love of her life, George. They were married on July 24,1960. As a young wife, while raising two young children, Voula worked tirelessly alongside her husband operating successful family restaurants - the Varsity on Bloor, the Ocean Boulevard Restaurant in Myrtle Beach, and The Tropical Hut in Crystal Beach.

Throughout her life’s journey she demonstrated courage and perseverance, especially after the loss of her husband at a young age. She was humble, trusting, and always had a welcoming smile for everyone she met. Most of all Voula will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family.

A heartfelt thank-you to the staff of Carefree Lodge Long Term Care Home and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their dedication, care and kindness towards Voula.

As her daughter tirelessly cared for her, family, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and recreational therapists witnessed her impressive courage to the very end.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at Carefree Lodge or to the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation. While our hearts ache, we take some comfort in knowing that Voula is now reunited with her husband George, resting in God’s loving care.

Due to pandemic restrictions, reservations will be required through the Heritage Funeral Centre. The funeral service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Thorncliffe Park Drive on Monday, June 28 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow.
