Etlin DavidETLIN, David - It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of David Donald Etlin. David was born on January 24,1946 and passed away on August 14, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Beloved husband of Shari Stein. Loving father and father-in-law of Mira Etlin- Stein and the late Brian Lahaie, Hannah Etlin- Stein and Luke Denison.

Dear brother and brother-in-law of Karen and Michael Rotstein and the late Marlene Bloom and Rudy Bloom.

Devoted grandfather of Davida and Isidore.

David was born in Toronto, the youngest child of loving parents, Murray and Minnie Etlin. He had two older sisters Marlene and Karen. Although his mother Minnie died before David turned one, the extended family came together and he and his sisters were surrounded by support, and the loving care provided by their father Murray.

In 1970, David moved to Vancouver to complete his residency in internal medicine. There, David met Shari and after speaking to her for about a half hour about a trip he was planning, she decided (quietly) that she would be traveling with him. Shari and David built a beautiful, strong partnership.

David and Shari returned to Ontario in 1975. They had two daughters, Mira and Hannah. David loved being a father.

For the last thirty years of David's life, he lived with Parkinson's Disease. He handled his restrictions and the progressive nature of the illness with dignity and acceptance.

Towards the end of his life, David experienced the joys of being a grandparent, a role he fell into effortlessly.

Please join us for the funeral (which will be livestreamed) on Wednesday, August 18th at 1:00 p.m. Please also join us for a zoom shiva service on Thursday, August 19th at 7:30 p.m. This will entail a short service led by Rabbi Elyse Goldstein followed by an informal memorial where there will be an opportunity for friends and family to share stories about David.

Arrangements with Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel.

Donations in David's honour can be made to Parkinson's Society of Canada or to a charity of your choosing.
