Makkay Dr ZoltanMAKKAY, Dr. Zoltan Makkay, MD, FRCS(C)  -  1935 - 2021

Dr. Zoltan Makkay passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at The Meadows of Dorchester Long Term Care Home with his loving wife, Katalin, by his side.

He started Medical School in Hungary and immigrated to Canada after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, residing first in Montreal and then Halifax.

He continued Medical School at Dalhousie University receiving his MD in 1963.

He then entered the Obstetrics / Gynaecology training program in Toronto receiving his Fellowship in 1968.

 

He was on the Obstetric / Gynaecology Medical Staff at North York General Hospital from its inception in 1968, until retiring in 2004 after a long and successful practice.

He was respected by his medical and nursing colleagues and his care and concern was appreciated by his patients.

Upon Zoltan's retirement in 2004, he moved to Niagara Falls, and divided his time between Florida, Europe and Niagara Falls.

He is survived by his second wife, Katalin Makkay and his two children, Kristina Makkay (Jeremy) and Andrea Makkay, and their mother, Elizabeth Makkay.

He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Brianna and Sean, and Katalin's two daughters, Dr. Katalin Lövey Szelényiné (Zsolt) and Noémi, and her two grandchildren, Ákos and Anna Szelényi.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and ever remembered with affection and love.

A private Celebration of Life by invitation from the family will be held in Niagara Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the North York General Hospital, 4001 Leslie Street, Toronto, ON M2K 1E1 or The Meadows of Dorchester, 6623 Kalar Road, Niagara Falls, ON L2H 2T3 would be appreciated.
