KALAMARIS, George - It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing on September 8, 2021 of our beloved father George Kalamaris.
To know "Kalamari", is to know life.
He was larger than life.
Passionate, vibrant and full of zeal, only 5’ 8’ in stature, he stood as if he was 10 feet tall.
Our protector, our leader, our teacher, and our mentor, it was always family first for George. He made us feel safe, secure and most importantly loved.
Exactly what a father is.
He was the first man that we fell in love with and is and the standard by which we measure man’s worth - Integrity, loyalty and kindness were his cornerstones. He was always ready to help and was our fiercest supporter. Nobody could resist his charms. He was charisma personified.
He was the Godfather of the Kalamaris family and captain of his own ship - a ship built on a dream and endless faith in his own abilities to move from Constantinople to create a beautiful new life in Canada. Failure was never an option, ever, and there was no quit in him. Family meant everything to him.
After 80 glorious years, George was finally able to find a safe harbour in which to moor his ship.
In the words of one of his favourite Greek writers, Niko Kazantzakis, dad lived his life by this motto: “I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free.”
We know you are now “free” and in the loving arms of your Mother, Father and Brother.
We love you dearly and miss you already. You have forever left your mark on those you leave behind. Until we meet again, may you rest in peace.
He is survived by his Roula (wife), Stella, Liza, Mary (daughters), Carl and Steven (Son-in-laws) and Alex, Jazz, Elle, Stephanie and Matthew - his treasured and well-loved grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Centre, Toronto on Sunday, September 12, 2021. The service will take palce at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Thorncliffe Park Dr. Toronto on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:00AM.
