Warkentin PeterWARKENTIN, Peter Earl - Passed into the presence of his Lord on September 5, 2021, at his residence in Shepherd Village.

He is survived by his wife Lillian Cornelius, daughter Gloria, sister Doris, grandsons Aaron and Adrian, stepsons James, Murray, and Brian, stepdaughter Brenda, and eleven step grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn, his parents Jacob and Maria Warkentin, and brothers Jack, John, Conn, Edwin, and Reginald.

Peter was born at Haskett, Manitoba, on May 19, 1925.

At 18 he left his home in Portage La Prairie to join the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. After several months of training, he was posted to Vancouver where he met and married Evelyn Stanten, who was also serving in the Canadian forces. They were together for 62 years. After a short stint in civilian life after the war, which he found rather limiting, Peter was soon back in air force blue.

During his 32-year military career, he, with Evelyn and daughter Gloria, moved to various locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. He retired as an Aeronautical Engineer with the rank of Flight Lieutenant.

When he retired, Peter and Evelyn were asked by the mission’s director of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada to consider a period of service in Kenya. They accepted the invitation without delay, arriving in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, in the spring of 1975. Peter worked as business manager with Bill Cornelius, who was the mission field director. Evelyn took charge of managing the guest house. Peter enjoyed many interesting experiences during his three years in Kenya, including ministering in rural churches, going on safari among the wildlife, and enjoying the shores of the Indian Ocean.

After a short illness, his wife Evelyn died in 2006. Peter was to continue living in the Village until his death.

At age 82, Peter married Lillian Cornelius, a family friend of many years who he first met when he went to Kenya in 1975. They were to share a happy 14 years together, traveling to various places, including a trip back to Kenya and a long-planned trip to Israel.

Peter was loved by all he met and is already deeply missed.
