Vanstond VelmaVANSTONE, Velma Marian (nee SOMERVILLE)   -  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Velma Vanstone, peacefully in her own home, at Christie Beach, Thornbury on Monday, September 27, 2021.

Velma would have been 97 on December 16th.

Predeceased by her cherished husband Vinton Vanstone (2012), Velma will be deeply missed as the loving Mom of Bob and Claudette Vanstone, of Buckhorn, Linda Vanstone of North Bay, Nancy and Lorne Faubert of Sarnia and Ron and Marlene Vanstone of Hilton Head.

She will be fondly remembered as the devoted Grandma to Jennifer Faubert, Sandra and Bryan Chumko, Christopher and Kristen Blahey, Kim and Jeff McGirr, Ashley and Jun Vanstone Hashiwaki, Amanda Vanstone and Derek Mudd.

Best Great-Grandma ever to her only great-grandson, Finley, and as a dear Aunt to her several nieces and nephews and their families.

Predeceased by her younger sisters Jean (Ed) Armstong, Mary (Jack) Crawford, Muriel (Graham) Crawford and Joyce (surviving Grant) Redshaw and baby brother Stanley Somerville.

Velma was born on the farm, in Malton (Mississauga), to parents Jim and Verna Somerville.

Velma and Vinton were married on September 24, 1949. They were inseparable and happily married for 62 years.

They built their first home on the corner of the farm and raised 4 children in a home filled with love and laughter.

Velma held leadership roles within the Brampton East Woman's Institute, The Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation and various church groups. Mom was very active her entire life.

A graveside service will take place Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Brampton Cemetery.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or Grace United Church may be made.
