Eby KarenEBY, Karen Lynn (nee Chambers) - (March 4, 1945 to October 29, 2021) - Karen died suddenly at her home on Friday, October 29, 2021.

She is survived by her beloved husband Tom, sister Sandra Moos and brother-in-law Rob Moos, as well other family members.

Karen was born in Toronto, the daughter of Len and Ethel Chambers. She attended Bathurst Heights Secondary School in North York. Growing up she spent quality time with her family at their Blackstone Lake cottage. After graduation she got a job as a secretary at mining company Rio Algom.

She decided she could improve her lot and made a decision to pursue a career in accounting. Subsequently she articled at Dunwoody, an accounting firm, and achieved her Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Karen had met Tom Eby, a Chartered Accountant at Rio Algom. Their relationship blossomed and they were married on a lucky day: Friday the 13th, September, 1968. A job opportunity presented itself at the Ontario Securities Commission, where Karen got a job working as an analyst on new initiatives. Over the years she took on more senior positions. Eventually Karen played a key role in development of SEDAR (the System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval). This was the capstone to her career at the OSC. When she retired from the Ontario Public Service she was hired by CDS (Canadian Depository for Securities), the private sector partner that operates SEDAR.

In the early 1990s Karen and Tom enjoyed many outdoor activities including cycling, organized hikes in England and Austria, and canoe tours. Their adventures culminated in a white water canoe trip down the wild, majestic Nahanni River in remote Northwest Territories.

After retirement Tom and Karen decided to sell their longtime home in Leaside and bought a condo at Claridges, near Bayview and Sheppard. This opened a new chapter in Karen’s life, as she took to condo living like a duck to water and became involved in the building’s governance and social activities. Karen joined the condo board, became Treasurer, and more recently President. This gave her the chance to make many special friends.

In lieu of flowers donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted with Giffen-Mack funeral home, Danforth chapel.
