Schmidt JosephSCHMIDT, Joseph - (October 5, 1935 to October 29, 2021) -

Devoted husband of 60 years to Helen (nee Dinjer).

Loving father of Christine (Timothy), Paul (Vicky) and Tony (Karianne).

Doting Opa to Angela (Craig), Phillip (Elinor), Brendan, Sara (Daniel), Liam, Kieran and Joseph. Cherished great grandfather of Noah and Liliana (Angela and Craig).

Predeceased by brothers Frank Schmidt and Andrew Schmidt.

Joseph was born to Yugoslavian immigrants Ignatz and Magdalena Schmidt in Toronto, Ontario in 1935. He studied auto mechanics at Danforth Tech and had a long, fulfilling career with the Consumers’ Gas Company.

In his retirement years, he became affectionately known in his Centennial community as the “Bike Man,” a devotion which kept him busy until the progression of his Parkinson’s left him unable to continue. He was also an avid stamp and video collector.

Joseph met Helen shortly after she arrived in Canada in 1959, and they married soon after in September of 1961. They remained devoted to each other and their family through the years and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Both Joe and Helen were longstanding and active members of the Donauschwaben Klub in Toronto, where they met. Joe spent a number of years as president of the Klub and is remembered by all as a gentle and kind hearted spirit.

Joe, Dad, Opa, Uropa, you will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. We love you.

Arrangements and livestream service details are entrusted with Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, Scarborough chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Parkinson's Society of Canada (parkinson.ca) or to the Blue Danube Benevolent Society (Blue Danube Toronto Facebook Page)
