Foote PeterFOOTE, Peter  -  It hurts our collective hearts to announce the sudden passing of a much-loved friend, cousin, brother, son, nephew and uncle — Peter Foote — on February 24, 2024, just 3 weeks after retiring from the City of Toronto, at age 64.

Peter died peacefully, in his sleep in Mexico, doing what he loved — vacationing with friends after spending the evening hosting a dinner party.

A tall, handsome man with a winsome smile and booming voice, Peter personified presence and pizazz.

This showed in his 33-year career as a social services supervisor and in his practice as a psychotherapist, a skill set that often carried over to talks with friends and family. It also showed in his love of cooking, breaking bread with others and conversations into the wee hours.

Born and raised in Hamilton's north end to Peter and Joan Foote (nee Passmore), Peter was the eldest of 6 children.

He moved to Toronto where he studied at the University of Toronto, worked and cultivated a network of friends and partners who became his Toronto family.

Always up for a get together, Peter's home was a hub for social gatherings, many of which focused on eating and creating food. He often shared his house with family and friends in need of temporary or long-term accommodations. He loved people and people loved him back.

Peter had many interests but was especially passionate about the 2SLGBTQ-plus and aboriginal communities.

A Celebration of Peter's Life will be held Thursday, April 11th, from 6-9 p.m. at The 519 at 519 Church Street, Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to The 519, a city agency that supports 2SLGBTQ-plus communities or to Nishnawbe Homes Inc., a First Nations non-profit housing provider.
