Christensen EthelCHRISTENSEN, Ethel  -  Passed away peacefully, at her retirement home on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at age 98.

 

Ethel was raised on a farm near Hitterdal, Minnesota. One of the WWII "Code Girls," she had B.S. and M.E. in art education from the University of Minnesota.

 

She taught art in the Minneapolis Public School system, then public school systems in New York State.

 

In Canada, she taught at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary (Assistant Professor), the Toronto District School Board, and ended her career as head of the art department at Gordon Graydon Secondary School in Peel. Her publications included "Children's Art Education" and Painting Boldly."

 

She painted into her 90s, with over 60 group exhibitions and 40 one-woman shows. Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Christensen; and is survived by daughter, Melanie (Martin); grandsons, Stephen (Laura) and Jeremy; brothers, Don and Ken; and cousins, Karen, Jean and Eileen.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be appreciated.

 

As was her wish, there will be no funeral.
