ARPONEN, Elmer Armas Arponen  - September 27, 1942 – October 14, 2019 

“We’ll remember for you”  Elmer Armas Arponen, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease passed on Monday October 14, 2019 with his wife, sister and daughter by his side. 

Elmer was born on Elephant Lake, Harcourt, Ontario and resided in Toronto, Bowmanville and Underwood before moving to Newcastle in 2002.

He was a police officer for the Ontario Provincial Police before retiring after years working Security at Ontario Power Generation. 

His favourite past times included fishing, golfing and spending as much time as he could at the cottage.  Loving husband for 44 years to Lorraine (nee Bryant). Elmer will be missed by his daughter Carin and her husband Rick, as well as his son Armas.

Also missed by his sister Helen (predeceased by sister Laila and brother Leo), his grandchildren Douglas, Izaack and Alice as well as many more relatives and friends. 

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville for their care and compassion over the two months he remained in hospital prior to passing. 

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday November 10, 2019 at Walsh’s Snug in Newcastle, in the back room from Noon – 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, Haliburton are appreciated.
