Barruch BertBARRUCH, Bertram 'Bert' Elliot - On Friday, June 7, 2019 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by Caryl, his loving wife for over 77 years, loving father and father-in-law of Diane Gladstone and Sheldon Shoib and Meryl and Stan Solomon.
Known to most as "Papa", he also leaves behind his grandchildren Jordan, Audra and Tony, Richard and Beatrice, Lesly and Peter, Michelle and Greg as well as great- grandchildren Joshua, Owen (z"l), Jacob, Abigail, Liam, and Benjamin.
Bert worked and played to the fullest. His love for his family was most important, but he also loved music and played a mean piano enjoying many a jam session with other family members and friends. Fishing, photography clubs, gardening, restoring old furniture treasures at his workbench and volunteering at Holy Blossom Temple were some of the many interests that past his time when he wasn't working as a children's wear representative.
After retiring at the age of 75, he was entertained weekly on interesting outtings for lunch and site- seeing by Gary Posen for which we will be forever grateful. By this time all Bert's contemporaries had passed on and Bert looked forward to Gary's adventures trying out new places to eat and driving to distant towns outside the city just for ice cream. In more recent years, after losing most of his sight and hearing, he was looked after by his and Caryl's wonderful caregiver, Magda. Thanks also to Jeanette, Rosario, Rose and Margie.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019 at Pardes Shalom Cemetery, Holy Blossom Temple Section, 10953 Dufferin Street, Maple, Ontario at 10:15 a.m. Shiva will be held at 1 Mill River Drive, Vaughan, Ontario L6A 0Y7 as follows: Wednesday, June 12th following the service until 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, June 13th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Evening services will be held at 8:00 p.m.
