LEGERE, Nicholas -
FEBRUARY 8, 1925 – SEPTEMBER 2, 2023
Passed away at Ballycliffe Long Term Care Home, Ajax, on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 98 years.
Dearly beloved husband of of 75 years to Jeanne D'Arc (nee Lanteigne).
Loving father of Lise Watt (Brian), Roger (Patricia), and Paul (Cathy).
Cherished grandpa of Roger Watt (Nancy), Gregory Watt (Connie), Paul Legere, Amey Legere (Kaitlin), Rebecca Fontoura (Kyle), Eric Legere; and great grandpa of Mikaela Stirpe, Ava-Lise Stirpe, Madelyn Fontoura, and Leah Watt.
Dear brother of Hermel, and predeceased by siblings Estelle, Henry, Lionel, Cajeton, Alcide, Jean-Eudes, Benoit, Gerard, Hedard, and adopted siblings Amandine and Leonard. Son of the late Joseph Legere and Anne-Marie Lanteigne of Lower Caraquet, New Brunswick.
Nicholas, tried being a fisherman for 1 season, became a lumberjack in northeastern U.S, Quebec and Ontario, became a carpenter for most of his career earning Lifetime membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America after 50 yrs of continuous membership.
Worked on the Niagara Falls Hydro dam, Pearson airport Terminal 2, Toronto Subway System, Pickering Hydro Plant, Bruce Hydro Plant ending his career at the Darlington Hydro plant. Most of his 25yrs with Ontario Hydro as a Carpenter Foreman. From 1957 to 1961 he accepted a position with the Canada Colombo Plan.
His role was a foreman at the Warsak Hydro Electric Project in Pakistan. He was accompanied by his wife and 2 older children. Nick was Co-Founder and President of the Ste Madeleine School Hockey league.
In commemoration of his many years of service the Nick Legere trophy was presented to the player Most Improved, as well as displaying sportsmanship on and off the ice. This trophy promoted Nick’s ideals and beliefs towards hockey.
A visitation for Nicholas will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West. A Funeral Mass will occur Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 355 Taunton Rd E, Whitby.
