McQuay NancyMCQUAY, Nancy Ann -

September 1, 1958 - November 21, 2023

From the moment our sister Nancy was born on September the 1st, 1958 she had been the cherished treasure in our family.

She was the youngest of us and the most innocent, always giving up a wide-eyed smile for the love of a natural world.

Our childhood farm provided a wondrous haven in which to explore and develop that love, something Nan carried with her into the future as a gifted photographer and growing adventurer – she once bicycled the entire distance from Whitby to Halifax at age 19, ending up as youth hostel manager in Nova Scotia’s beautiful Wentworth Valley.

Her exuberance diminished only afterwards at age 21, being laid low by a life-threatening neurological condition and told by doctors that she wouldn’t survive. Forty-four years later, by the end of a long and courageous journey, Nancy had proved them wrong.

She remained big of heart throughout the years, seldom complaining about the cards she was dealt but instead retaining a positive and buoyant attitude, reminding us to find the pleasure in life’s details.

For her family and friends, she became the best symbol of determination, perseverance and joy.

Nan, you are on another journey now, finally free to move and we wish you all the love and enjoyment you deserve so well. The cats and the squirrels and the love birds will always be here, but we will all miss making you laugh.

Our family would like to thank all the truly lovely staff at Fairview Lodge for their amazing kindness and support over the years, they became an integral part of our family too.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the World Wildlife Fund Canada or Fairview Lodge in Nancy’s name are suggested.
